Google Adsense: How You Can Use It To Make Money

December 3rd, 2008

Adsense is one way that Google makes money. Adsense allows website owners to share in Google’s advertising revenue by showing ads on their own sites. Google gives the content of the ads. Often, website owners wonder which ads will appear. The specific ads which are displayed are dependent on the keywords and the content on the website owner’s site.

Today, Adsense is a major avenue that website owners use earn advertising revenue on their websites. There are several reasons for this. Adsense ads are usually less intrusive than the traditional ads which people are used to seeing online. Also, because the ads are chosen due to the content of the particular website, the ads are almost always much more relevant than the banner-type ads.

The system is quite simple. When website browsers click on ads, the website owner is credited with revenue for each click. The amount ranges from a few cents up to one dollar or even more. The ads displayed are generated from advertisers who have joined the Adwords network.

You might assume that owners of websites would be tempted to click on advertisements on their own sites, knowing that each click earns them revenue. Its is not surprising to learn that Google takes click fraud very seriously and knows how to determine when it happens. When they catch someone committing click fraud, usually the guilty person is banned from ever using Adsense again.

Website designers have come up with three main ways of increasing clicks on websites:

Using many types of traffic-generating methods to increase website visitors.

Improving the content on their website, so more valuable ads get shown and clicked on.

Persuasive sales copy which naturally makes readers want to click on the ads. Some website owners write phrases like these: “Sponsored Links” or “Advertisements”. It should go without saying that it violates Google’s Adsense terms of service utilize such blatant comments as “Click on these links”.
