Business Casual Attire Defined: Top 4 Outfit Options.

As women venture farther into workspaces and corporate culture simultaneously grows more informal, the business casual dress code has garnered mainstream appeal.

Given the skyrocketing rates of business style attire today, most workplaces encourage and accommodate dressing a little casually.

However, not at the expense of looking shabby, unkempt, or unimpressive. This raises a whole new question – what really qualifies as business casual?

What Is Business Casual Dress Code?

There are many answers to this question. One might say business casual is what combines comfort with class – it is neither a three-piece suit nor a T-shirt and jeans. Rather, it is something in between and can be a combination of both.

For example, if one were to wear a button-down shirt along with a pair of jeans, or a casual shirt with formal or tapered pants.

An ideal business casual look is one that commands attention due to its trendiness but is also minimalistic and understated.

Therefore, business casual fashion hinges upon subtlety and effortlessness. Here is a list of clothing styles and articles that can qualify as business casual looks.

Semi Formal Eastern Wear.

You can never go wrong with eastern wear when it comes to corporate culture. There is no such thing as “dressing down” if you are wearing an effortlessly smart, nicely cut kameez with pants or a shalwar.

The best thing about stitched lawn suits is just how much stylistic variety you have.

Your top choices can range from a long or short shirt, a traditional kameez, kurtis, coaties, or men’s shalwar kameez.

These can be paired with an array of ready-made pants styles, such as cigarette pants, shalwar, straight-cut pants, bell bottoms, boot-cut pants, or tulip shalwar.

What truly sets a casual lawn suit apart from a business casual one is its embellishments. If you are planning to wear a simple printed suit to work, this may not qualify as business casual.

However, if you choose a solid, non-neutral-colored suit that has been adorned with laces, buttons, embroidery, or any kind of value-adding item, it can be considered a business casual suit.

The ideal lawn suit which fits the business casual profile can also be described as semi-formal.

Comfortable Sweaters.

Another weather-specific example is that of comfortable sweaters. Any sweater of any design, color, material, or cut can be considered somewhat formal, and not just casual.

Sweaters are inherently presentable, meaning that whether you wear a traditional woolen one, a sleeveless sweater vest, a turtleneck, a polo neck, a V-neck sweater, a crochet sweater, a cropped sweater, a ribbed sweater, a cable knit sweater, a cashmere sweater, or any other style under the sun if you are wearing it, you are already halfway there.

If you want to be dressed business casual, you can pair any of the previously mentioned styles of sweaters with your jeans, skirts, or pants. The best thing about them is their versatility.

For example, the same sweater vest worn over a button-down shirt, paired with a blazer would look very formal, while thrown over a matching polo-neck, it would look like a smart and elegant business casual look.

Flat Shoes.

Everybody knows how unrealistic an expectation it is to wear heels for an eight-hour workday. Gone are the days when this was the norm!

Today, most women in the workforce wear flats and rock them. Not only is it highly uncomfortable to wear heels, but it also limits you in terms of options.

All you can wear are court shoes, block heels, or some other close-toed options that are not too high or uncomfortable.

When looking at flats, however, you can wear anything ranging from a pair of slippers, sandals, or khussa to go with your shalwar kameez, sneakers to go with your T-shirt and jacket look, or pumps, espadrilles, loafers, boots with your blazer or dress shirt and pants.

There is an endless number of options and all you have to do is look around.

T-Shirts with Jackets.

This combination is one of our favorites, as it offers people a lot of range as well as ease of access. Everybody has ready-to-wear T-shirts for their summer wardrobe; they embody the optimum level of comfort and aesthetic appeal.

What is more convenient than throwing a jacket over your favorite T-shirt and calling it a fit? It is comfortable, easy to wear for long hours, and even office appropriate.

The best part about T-shirts is that they leave room for individuality and give you an opportunity to style your outfit in a way that says something about you.

For example, if you see a girl in a Nirvana band T-shirt, you will know that she is a fan of the band. Unlike other business or office wear options, this allows you to showcase your interests and personality.
